The granted patent describes a novel focus depth model for sharp digital imaging of pathology slides. In this method a focus stack of images taken from one or several points in a scanned specimen is used to estimate the best focus level of a point elsewhere on the slide. This method saves scanning time by reducing the number of images needed for sharp focusing.
